                The Centre for Robotics and Automation established in April 2022, is a joint initiative of the Department of Production Technology, Madras Institute of Technology Campus, Anna University with 22 years of sustenance of running programme in Mechatronics and research in the field of Robotics and low-cost automation in collaboration with the pioneering team of Department of Instrumentation Engineering, MIT Campus, Anna University aims to promote Robotics and Automation System development ecosystem in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Currently, Dr. K. LATHA, Professor of Instrumentation Engineering department  is heading as  Director   and     Dr. P. KARTHIKEYAN, Assistant Professor (Sr. Gr.) of Production Technology department is acting as Deputy Director of Centre for Robotics and Automation.

        The use of robotics and automation has significantly increased in recent years, driven by advances in technology and the need for increased efficiency, productivity, and safety in various industries. Overall, Robotics and Automation are transforming the way tasks and processes are performed across various industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, agriculture, etc.

         Robotics and automation refer to the use of technology to automate tasks and processes that were previously performed by humans. Robotics involves the use of robot or machine that can be programmed to perform tasks autonomously or with minimal human intervention, while automation refers to the use of technology to automate processes and tasks in various industries.

VISION

                The Centre for Robotics and Automation perseveres in becoming a Centre of excellence in Robotics and Automation for Research and Consultancy. The Centre aims to provide the engineering needs for societal and industrial applications through multi-domain integrated robotic technology. Its endeavor is to become a trusted collaborator for the industry and government agencies in the field of robotics and automation for providing Engineering solutions. The Centre strives to understand the current needs, design virtual models and develop full-fledged systems (customer centric) for sustainable growth.

MISSION

 

Facilitation: To establish the current state-of-the-art research facilities including equipment, test rigs, instrument, accessories and techniques continuously for the development of types of robots and automation systems.

R&D Projects: To generate funds and conduct R&D Projects in the area of Robotics and System Automation by involving multidisciplinary teams and coming up with patentable and marketable ideas, as well as generate high-quality publications.

Consultancy: To engage in Consultancy work in the area of robotics and system automation to cater to the needs of the Industries/Government.

 

Technology Transfer: To transfer the Robotics and System Automation Technologies and their application to Government Departments and various users through Pilot Projects/ Operational Projects.

 

Entrepreneurship: To promote and guide aspiring entrepreneurs in the area of robotics and system automation for their establishment.

Academics Research Support: To provide academic support to postgraduate / PhD programmes of the University in the area of robotics and system automation.

Training & Certification: To provide a strong foundation in robotics and system automation through the training programs to the students, researchers, faculty and industry professionals and make them become certified robotics engineers.

            CRA facilities, facilitates with different equipment, test rigs, instrument, accessories and techniques for continuous development of various types of robots and automation systems.

Research

       Identify and analyze the potential and immediate engineering needs for robots and automation solutions in various fields.
